12 women to be honoured as Daughters of the Year
In advance of the Daughters Day celebration that takes place Saturday, September 6, at City Hall, there will be a news conference to announce the women who will be recipients of the Daughters of the Year awards.
News conference: Thursday, September 4, 11 AM
Stanley Milner Library, Edmonton Room (lower level)
Several of the recipients will be in attendance and available for media to speak with. Requests for interviews with any of them at other times will also be met.
The jury that selected the Daughters of the Year from nominations from the public consisted of Danielle Campell, Deputy-Chief Edmonton Police Services; Karen Leibovici; Danielle Monroe, ACT Alberta; Philomena Okeke-Ihejirika, University of Alberta; and Lori Sigurdson, Alberta College of Social Workers.
The September 6 event is part of the overall Daughters Day work, that includes the publication in June of a book for community groups on working to end gender discrimination. Information about Daughters Day is at www.daughters-day.com.
