Natyam Dance Academy
Natyam Dance Academy is a premier dance institute in Alberta specializing in the south-Asian dance form of bharathanatyam. Founded by dancer, choreographer, and art educator Malavika Venkatsubbaiah, Natyam was established with the vision of cultivating and nurturing artistic excellence in the next generation of artists.
Inspired by the rich traditions of south-Asian dance and attempting to reach a contemporary relevance with roots of traditional vocabulary, Natyam has carved a niche by bringing high caliber bharathanatyam to the forefront in Alberta. Their works have been supported by Edmonton Arts Council, Calgary Arts Development Authority, and Alberta Dance Alliance. They have been presented at many prestigious venues across Canada including Feats Festival of Dance, CaNatyam Festival, Ragamala Music Society of Edmonton & Calgary, Polaris Performing Arts Theatre, Cold Lake Multicultural Association, Manohar Performing Arts of Canada – Winnipeg, and The Thousand Faces Festival Edmonton. Artistic director Malavika Venkatsubbaiah is the recipient of Cultural Diversity Award by Edmonton Arts Council and Natya Saradhi and Konark Natya Ratna awards from India.
